From the Desk of the Farmington-Victor Kiwanis President - May 6, 2020

Greetings Fellow Kiwanians!

I hope you are all doing well during the pause and staying safe indoors. It's been another interesting week of the PAUSE.  We had a great virtual meeting last week with Dr. Tim Terranova, new Superintendent of Schools for the Victor Central School District, who spoke about his first few months on the job, how the district has been adapting to the COVID crisis, the upcoming budget vote and much more!

IMPORTANT NOTE - We will now NOT be having a regular meeting this Friday 5/8.  The online National Day of Prayer "Breakfast" listed below in PSA #5 will take the place of the regular meeting this week.  Mike Schwabl, President of Dixon Schwabl, will be a great keynote speaker. Tim Niver, Director of the Victor-Farmington Library has so graciously agreed to come to speak to the club next Friday, 5/15, instead. Thank you Tim!

PSA#1 - Victor-Farmington Food Cupboard is hosting another pop-up food drive on Saturday May 9 from 11am to 1pm at Mead Square Park. Just place your donation in the VFFC van. They are in need of everything but especially crackers or bread mix, canned fruit, tuna, rice and canned meats. Please do respect social distancing rules and stand back if someone else is near the van. Thanks so much and please share the event if you can!

PSA#2 - If you are housebound and need help (groceries, delivery, meals, etc.) or if you have been isolated due to the quarantine and are feeling lonely or down, please call or email me any time, and I will do what I can to help.

PSA#3 - I have set up a link on our club website to enable members of the public to make donations to our foundation so that we can reinvest them into the community over the coming weeks and months.  To date this effort has raised nearly $1,500 for the Farmington-Victor Kiwanis Emergency Fund! Let's keep up the momentum! Whether it be increasing the spending power of the Food Cupboard or purchasing snacks for The Spot or providing items for families in need at the Child Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes, we want to do our part to help. Here is the link: https://www.kiwaniscluboffarmingtonvictorny.org/product-page/farmington-victor-kiwanis-2020-emergency-donation

PSA#4 - With The Spot locked out of the schools in Canandaigua until the quarantine is over, we have some extra food stuffs and personal hygiene items that we want to distribute to those in need. Sarah and I have built a Little Free Pantry in front of our house on Opal Drive in Farmington for folks in need in the vicinity of our neighborhood to be able to pick up food items or other items we have free of charge, in hopes we can supplement a little of what the Food Cupboard is doing.  Please feel free to stop buy to drop off a donation or pick up any items you may need, and we will wave to you from the window!

PSA#5 - Thursday May 7, 2020 will be the annual Kiwanis National Day of Prayer Breakfast, which will be held virtually/online this year on BlueJeans. The online event will kick off at 7am and the featured speaker will be Mike Schwabl, President of Dixon Schwabl. Visit https://bluejeans.com/367372196 at time of meeting or call in by telephone at 1.408.317.9254 and enter meeting access code/ID 367372196. All are welcome. Please email Dave Jacobus at djacobus4550@gmail.com to confirm your attendance.

As always, important dates and links are included below for your convenience.  Please don't hesitate to email me at plante29@gmail.com or call/text me at 518-588-8270 if you need anything.  Please be safe!
